John Lukic the Leeds United goalkeeper keeps an eye on the action here as Leeds United take on Oldham Athletic in the First Division clash played on October 26th in the 1991-92 season. United won the league that year, the last First Division title before the Premier League started.
John Lukic signed for Leeds United as a schoolboy and made his full debut in 1979. After United were relegated in 1981-82 Lukic stayed with Leeds for a another season but lost his place as he wanted to leave the club to play at the top level. Lukic was eventually signed by Arsenal on 1st July, 1983 for 50,000. By this time Lukic had made 165 appearances for the Whites. Wilkinson brought Lukic back to Elland Road on 1st June, 1990 to replace veteran Mervyn Day for a fee of 1M. Lukic made another 265 appearances for United winning the First Division Championship along the way in 1991-92. Lukic overhall made 430 appearances for Leeds United.
Leeds won the game featured with Oldham Athletic 1-0. An own goal gave United the points in front of 28,199 fans.

Gary McAllister here off the ball strutting around his area waitng for the action to commence. This pic shot during the Division One game with Chelsea on April 11th, 1992 in the Championship winning season of 1991-92. United won the game 3-0 with goals coming from Cantona, Chapman and Rod Wallace in front of 31,363 fans. United won the league by four clear points over rivals Manchester United and scored 74 goals. This was a special prize for Wilkinson's men as this was the last ever Division One Championship before the Premier League started.

Gary McAllister here applauding the fans at Elland Road after the final whistle blew in the encounter with Chelsea at Elland Road, Gordon Strachan can be seen jogging with delight just behind. United had just completed the double over Chelsea beating them 3-0 on April 11th, 1992 in the Championship winning season of 1991-92. The win kept United's title hopes alive with Cantona, Chapman and Rod Wallace netting the goals for Leeds in front of 31,363 spectators. United won the league with 82 points beating rivals Manchester United into second place and netting 74 goals. United only lost 4 games all season.

Gary McAllister and Eric Cantona here celebrating one of the three goals scored against Chelsea in the Divison One clash of the 1991-92 season. David Rocastle here the Leeds United midfielder waits for a corner to be delivered in the 1992-93 Premier League clash with Manchester City at Elland Road on March 13th, 1993. Rocastle got the only goal of the game which gave United victory in front of 30,840 fans. Rocky Rocastle joined United on the 1st August 1992, for a fee of 2M. Wilkinson had plans to replace veteran Gordon Strachan with Rocastle but unfortunately for Rocastle Strachan lasted another three seasons as the first choice United player for that midfield position. 8 of Rocastle's 25 league appearances for Leeds were as substitute as he found it hard to break into the Leeds side and he scored only twice for the Whites. Rocastle was sold to Manchester City for a fee of 2M on 20th December 1993. In February 2001 Rocastle announced he was suffering with cancer and was hopeful of recovery after undergoing a course of chemotherapy. Tragically on 31st March, 2001 Rocastle died with the illness at the young age of 33.

Gary Speed here waiting for a corner to be delivered in the encounter with West Ham United at Elland Road in the Championship 1991-92 season. The game played on March 28th, 1992 ended in a 0-0 draw in front of 31,101 fans. Gary Speed joined Leeds as a youngster and quickly progressed through the Youth Team to full team status. Emerging as the natural Left Wing choice in the promotion season of 1989-90. Speed made 288 full appearances for the Whites in all competitions and scored 57 goals. He left for Everton on July 1st 1996 for a fee of 350,0000.

Steve Hodge the United midfielder and captain Gordon Strachan celebrate the third goal which rounded a 3-0 victory over Chelsea at Elland Road on April 11th, season 1991-92. The win kept United in the hunt for the title in only their second season back to the top flight. Cantona, Chapman and Rod Wallace got the goals for United in front of a 31,363 crowd. Scaffold room only for these United fans who were determined not to miss any of the action in the end of season clash with Bournemouth. United were playing Bournemouth on the last day of the 1989-90 season. A win would give Wilkinson's men the second division title and with it promotion back to the top flight of English football after dwelling for 8 years down in the second tier. Bournemouth also desperately needed the points as a loss would see the team relegated to third division. It was the Whites who managed to score the only goal in a close game with Lee Chapman heading home from a Chris Kamara cross. The win sent the thousands of Leeds United fans into raptures and sent Leeds Utd back to where they belong. The crowd on that memorable day was 9,918 with over half coming to see the men in white.
