Leeds United 1966-67 No.0095
Another first for Don Revie's Leeds United in the season 1966-67 when The Whites fought their way to the Inter City Fairs Cup final. United eventually lost the final over two legs on goal difference to Croation side Dinamo Zagreb. A record crowd of 57,892 which still stands today at Elland Road saw United beat Sunderland in a FA Cup 5th Round replay and Leeds Marched On to the Semi Final of the competition that season only to be controversially knocked out by Chelsea at Villa Park. Referee K.H. Burns disallowed a perfectly good goal for Leeds, the goal coming from a Johny Giles free-kick who rolled the ball to Peter Lorimer, Lorimer smashed it home but the referee astonishingly ordered the free kick to be taken again because the Chelsea wall was not ten yards from the ball. United finished a decent 4th in the league with a notable 3-1 win over eventual Champions Manchester United at Elland Road with goals from Reaney, Lorimer and Madeley.

Back Row: Norman Hunter, Alan Peacock, Jack Charlton, Paul Madeley, Eddie Gray, Rod Belfitt.
Middle Row: Don Revie (Manager), Willie Bell, Mike O'Grady, David Harvey, Gary Sprake, Albert Johanesson, Rod Johnson, Jimmy Greenhoff.
Front Row: Paul Reaney, Bobby Collins, Johnny Giles, Billy Bremner, Jim Storrie, Peter Lorimer, Terry Cooper.

A Terraced Kop
A shot here of the Kop at Elland Road before the seating was introduced. This shot taken from the top tier of the East Stand shows the Kop in all its glory. A conservative estimate of the capacity before the seating for the Kop known then as The Gelderd End was just under 10,000. In October 1994 the stand changed its name to the Revie Stand after the great Leeds United manager. Also seen in the pic is the new Kop roof developments which were put in place in the early 90's.

A Sweet Scoreboard
The Leeds United scoreboard here at the South West corner of Elland Road displaying the score against Gillingham in the First Division game that was played on the 19th September, 2009.

United were looking to make it 15 league wins on the bounce at Elland Road in the game against Gillingham. Grayson kept the same team that drew away at Southend United in the previous game. Gillingham started the game brightly and it was the visitors who had the first chance on goal but the shot was fired wide, United responded straight away with a Luciano Becchio effort that was poked out by a Gills defender for a corner. Robert Snodgrass whipped in the corner for the Whites and it was Bradley Johnson who found the net with a strong header giving United the lead. Just 10 minutes later on 28 minutes it was Bradley Johnson again who found the net for Leeds firing home a low effort after a delightful ball by Jermaine Beckford that the Gillingham keeper was unable to handle. United now with a two goal advantage cruised to the half time whistle, and with just thirty seconds into the second half gone United made it three. A Robert Snodgrass ball into the box was glanced on by the head of Jermaine Beckford and Johnny Howson blasted home his first goal of the season for the Whites. On fifty minutes the visitors managed to get one back which in turn instilled a new spirit into the Gills who hadn't given up the game but that mattered little and the points were as good as rewarded on 80 minutes when Jermaine Beckford headed home his sixth goal of the season after the ball came off the cross bar from a Michael Doyle effort from outside the box. 21,026 fans turned up for the game at Elland Road and watched Grayson's men win their 15th consecutive league win on home soil.

Leeds United: Higgs, Crowe, Kisnorbo, Bromby, Doyle, Howson, Johnson, Hughes, Beckford, Becchio, Snodgrass.
Subs: Kilkenny for Crowe, Michalik for Snodgrass, Grella for Becchio.

In Attendance For Don
A full Centenary Pavilion here at Elland Road in attendance for the Don Revie Gala Dinner which was part of the Don Revie Tribute. Created by Barnsley born sculptor Graham Ibbeson the statue is a result of the Don Revie Tribute and is situated opposite the new development at the East Stand side of the Elland Road Stadium.

The Don Revie Tribute was set up by Birmingham City fan Jim Cadman. Jim Cadman is passionate about the game of football and has experience in setting up Tributes for past Legends of the game including Tom Finney the Preston North End Forward. It was the eventual sculptor of the Don Revie statue Graham Ibbeson who originally contacted Jim looking for help with the funding of the statue after the sculptor had been approached. The statue would cost around 90k. Jim decided the best way to get the funds and the best way to honour Don would be to set up a Tribute Fund and ask the supporters of Leeds United to contribute. A number of functions, dinners and auctions including a theatrical tribute and magazine were set up by Jim Cadman which were focused around the players from the Don Revie era who gladly gave up their time to help the cause. It was called the Don Revie Tribute and the supporters of Leeds United raised the cash. The Don Revie Statue was unveiled on the 5th May, 2012.
