The shot coming from the Football League Championship game against Burnley at Elland Road on the 30th April, 2011. Paynter started the game for Leeds but was replaced by fellow Scot Robert Snodgrass after 76 minutes.

He made his home debut for the Whites on the 9th November, 2010 coming on as substitute in the game against Hull City.
