Third For Varney

Submitted: 08/01/13 (Edited 08/01/13)
Description: Luke Varney United's Midfielder fires home from the spot here for United in front of the South Stand at Broadhall. This was United's third goal of the game and won Luke Varney the match ball as he netted his hat-trick at the game in Hertfordshire. The shot coming from the 2013-14 pre season friendly game against Stevenage at Broadhall Way on the 23rd July, 2013. Luke started the game for Leeds and scored a hat-trick but was replaced on 81 minutes by Noel Hunt.

The United manager finally brought Luke Varney to Elland Road on the 23rd July, 2012 after weeks of speculation. The English Midfielder costing 300k was one of four new Summer signings from troubled League One outfit Portsmouth FC. Always a favourite of the United Boss Warnock the manager said: "I have been after Luke for about seven years now on and off. I have spoken to him a number of times at different clubs but have never quite managed to sign him. He is an unpredictable type of player and the fans like him and I think there are goals in him. I will be setting him a target; I would like to think he can score between 8 and 10 goals next season." Luke made his debut for the Whites and scored his first goal for the club in the Football League Cup game Shrewsbury Town on the 11th August, 2012.

Leeds United: Kenny, Thompson, Lees, Pugh, Drury, Green, Brown, Norris, White, Varney, Poleon.
Subs: Austin for Green, McCormack for Norris, Hunt for Varney, Murphy for McCormack.
