Description:
David Rocastle here the Leeds United midfielder waits for a corner to be delivered in the 1992-93 Premier League clash with Manchester City at Elland Road on March 13th, 1993. Rocastle got the only goal of the game which gave United victory in front of 30,840 fans. Rocky Rocastle joined United on the 1st August 1992, for a fee of £2M. Wilkinson had plans to replace veteran Gordon Strachan with Rocastle but unfortunately for Rocastle Strachan lasted another three seasons as the first choice United player for that midfield position. 8 of Rocastle's 25 league appearances for Leeds were as substitute as he found it hard to break into the Leeds side and he scored only twice for the Whites. Rocastle was sold to Manchester City for a fee of £2M on 20th December 1993. In February 2001 Rocastle announced he was suffering with cancer and was hopeful of recovery after undergoing a course of chemotherapy. Tragically on 31st March, 2001 Rocastle died with the illness at the young age of 33.
Leeds United: Lukic, Kerslake, Dorigo, Batty, Fairclough, Wetherall, Rocastle, Rod Wallace, Strandli, Hodge, Speed. Subs: Chapman for Strandli, Newsome for Fairclough.
