Description:
Kasper Schmeichel United's Danish number one has a word with Defender Alex Bruce here at the Kop End of Elland Road. The shot coming from the FA Cup 3rd round replay against Arsenal at Elland Road on the 19th January, 2011. Both Kasper and Alex played the full ninety minutes for Leeds in the game against the North London outfit.
Kasper Schmeichel was manager Simon Grayson's first signing of the Summer of 2010 after United were promoted to the Championship. Leeds' manager Grayson beat off a host of other clubs to the Danish keeper's signature after he had kept 24 clean sheets for his former club Notts County and won the PFA League Two Player of the Year in the bargain. Schmeichel joined Leeds on a free transfer on the 1st July, 2010 in a contract that will last two years. He was handed the number One shirt for the 2010-11 season opener just edging out Shane Higgs who showed some good form in United's pre-season campaign. After being a long time target for Simon Grayson the United manager finally signed Alex Bruce from Ipswich Town for an undisclosed fee on the 30th July, 2010 on a two year deal, with the option for a further year. Alex's impressive debut came in the Championship game against Doncaster Rovers on the 17th September, 2010 in the season 2010-11. Manager Grayson.... "Alex is going to be a good member of the squad. He can play at centre-back, right-back, and as a holding midfielder... We felt we were short in those areas at this moment and we're delighted he's come... He's got a lot of experience, he's played in the Championship and the Premiership and he's what we want - a player who knows the division, is hungry and wants to be successful." Leeds United: Schmeichel, Connolly, Bruce, Parker, O'Brien, Gradel, Howson, Johnson, Paynter, Watt, Snodgrass. Subs: Bromby for O'Brien, Somma for Paynter, Sam for Watt.
