Neil Kilkenny United's English born Australian Midfielder and loanee Defender George McCartney here caught during a break in play on the Elland Road pitch. The shot coming from the Football League Championship game against Norwich City at Elland Road on the 19th February, 2011. McCartney played the full ninety minutes for Leeds in the game against the Norfolk outfit while Kilkenny was replaced by Davide Somma on 74 minutes.
Neil Kilkenny was signed by Dennis Wise on the 4th January, 2008. Coming to Leeds United initially on an emergency loan to ensure his inclusion in the squad the following day. He made his debut for the Whites three days before he signed his contract and picked up the Man of the Match award to boot in that game against Northampton Town. By mid season 2008-09 after a run of impressive displays Kilkenny established himself as Grayson's number one choice for his favoured central midfield role. English born Kilkenny is an Australian International, he grew up in Brisbane, Australia after his family moved there when he was just a kid. Simon Grayson the United manager initially brought in George McCartney on a months loan from Sunderland on the 23rd September, 2010. On the 4th October it was announced that the loan deal would be extended for two days so he could play in the Championship game against Cardiff City. His loan deal was again extended on the 30th October for another month and further extended for a third time on the 1st December. McCartney returned to Sunderland on the 30th December but on the 14th January, 2011 during the transfer window United re-signed McCartney in a loan deal that would keep the player at Elland Road for the remainder of the 2010-11 season.
