Dennis Wise initially brought Lubomir Michalik to Elland Road from Bolton Wanderers on a months loan in March 2007. Michalik immediately impressed and his strong performances in defence for the Whites prompted Wise to extend the months loan till the end of the 2006-07 season. Bolton called Michalik back due to injuries before his loan period was up but manager Wise's admiration for the player didn't waiver and he attempted to re-sign Michalik on a permananent contract in the 2008 January transfer window. Lubo was close to penning his signature for Leeds when Wise left for Newcastle but this didn't stop the new Leeds boss Gary McAllister, he gave the Michalik transfer the green light and Lubomir signed a three-and-a-half-year deal at the end of the 2008 transfer window for a fee believed to be in the region of 500,000 pounds.
