Chasing Varney

Chasing Varney

Description: Luke Varney United's English Midfielder caught here on the Elland Road pitch walking back to the tunnel after the referee blows for full time. The shot coming from the Football Association Cup 4th Round at Elland Road against Tottenham Hotspur on the 27th January, 2013. Varney played the full game for Leeds and scored United's first goal in the cup tie against the North London outfit.

The United manager finally brought Luke Varney to Elland Road on the 23rd July, 2012 after weeks of speculation. The English Midfielder costing 300k was one of four new Summer signings from troubled League One outfit Portsmouth FC. Always a favourite of the United Boss Warnock the manager said: "I have been after Luke for about seven years now on and off. I have spoken to him a number of times at different clubs but have never quite managed to sign him. He is an unpredictable type of player and the fans like him and I think there are goals in him. I will be setting him a target; I would like to think he can score between 8 and 10 goals next season." Luke made his debut for the Whites and scored his first goal for the club in the Football League Cup game Shrewsbury Town on the 11th August, 2012.

Leeds United: Ashdown, Byram, Peltier, Lees, White, Green, Brown, Austin, Varney, Diouf, McCormack.
Subs: Pearce/Diouf, Somma/McCormack.
