Casper's Mark

Caspers Mark

Description: Casper Ankergren United's Cup hero here in the West Stand car park at Elland Road signing the flag of a United fan. The pic coming before United's last Football League First Division game against Bristol Rovers on the 8th May, 2010. Casper did not feature in the game for Leeds but was there on the sidelines cheering the team on.

Ankergren was signed on loan by Dennis Wise on 31st January, 2009 from Brondby IF of Denmark. After establishing himself in the side making some match winning saves in the second half of the 2006-07 season he soon won the Elland Road faithful over and his loan deal was made permanent on 6th August, 2007 for an undisclosed fee signing on for a year. United's first choice keeper up until the start of the 2009-10 season when Ankergren lost his number one spot to Shane Higgs. Due to an injury to Higgs after only eight games of the 2009-10 season played Casper made a comeback and remained United's number one for the best part of the campaign. That lasted until the recovery of Higgs, just eight games before the season end. It was announced on 14th May, 2010 that Casper's contract would not be renewed at Leeds and he was free to talk to other clubs. Casper will always be remembered fondly by the Elland Road faithful for his heroic performances in the FA Cup during his last season for Leeds. The Dane made several important saves and had an outstanding game for Leeds in the FA Cup 3rd Round 1-0 victory over Manchester united at Old Trafford on the 3rd January, 2010. In the next round on 23rd January, 2010 and Casper was at it again pulling off a string of impressive saves and saving a penalty to boot in the game against Tottenham Hotspur which earned United a draw at White Hart Lane.

Match report to follow.

Leeds United: Higgs, Lowry, Bromby, Collins, Doyle, Kilkenny, Johnson, Hughes, Gradel, Beckford, Becchio.
Subs: Howson for Lowry, Watt for Becchio, Snodgrass for Beckford.
