Description:
Alex Bruce and Jonathan Howson here watch the action on the Elland Road pitch during the clash against Sheffield United at Elland Road on the 25th September, 2010. Both Alex and Jonny played the full ninety minutes in the game against the South Yorkshire outfit.
After being a long time target for Simon Grayson the United manager finally signed Alex Bruce from Ipswich Town for an undisclosed fee on the 30th July, 2010 on a two year deal, with the option for a further year. Alex's impressive debut came in the Championship game against Doncaster Rovers on the 17th September, 2010 in the season 2010-11. Manager Grayson.... "Alex is going to be a good member of the squad. He can play at centre-back, right-back, and as a holding midfielder... We felt we were short in those areas at this moment and we're delighted he's come... He's got a lot of experience, he's played in the Championship and the Premiership and he's what we want - a player who knows the division, is hungry and wants to be successful." Loiner and United fan Jonathan Howson came through the Academy at Leeds United and made his senior debut for the club on the 19th September, 2006 in the second round of the Football League Cup which United won 3-1. Later in the same season of 2006-07 Howson was given his league debut by manager Wise which came on the 23rd December, 2006 in the 0-0 draw with Hull City at Elland Road. By the season 2007-08 Howson had established himself as the natural choice for his position winning the Young Player of the Year award and earning a new three year contract with the Whites in the bargain. Manager Simon Grayson handed the role of captain to Howson at the start of season 2009-10 due to the absence of injured fellow Loiner Richard Naylor. Leeds United: Higgs, Hughes, Bruce, Collins, McCartney, Gradel, Howson, Johnson, Sam, Becchio, Somma. Subs: Snodgrass for Sam, Kilkenny for Gradel, McCormack for Somma.
