Description:
The United squad bring the 2000-01 season to a close here with a lap of honour and thanks to the Elland Road faithful. Leeds had just completed their season with a 3-1 win over Leicester City played on May 19th, 2001 in front of 39,105 fans. Alan Smith bagged a couple with Ian Harte getting the other to give United a comfortbale victory. It had been a great season for David O'Leary's Leeds United. United finished fourth in the Premier League just one point off a Champions League spot but qualified for the UEFA Cup. Leeds also had a good run in the Champions League reaching the Semi Final but unfortunately met an in form Valencia team who beat the Whites 3-0 in front of 53,000 at the Mestalla Stadium.
