Suit You Simon

Description: Simon Grayson here the United manager poses for the camera outside the Stadium:MK before the First Divsion clash with the Milton Keynes Dons on the 26th September, 2009.

Simon Grayson stepped down a division to take on the role of manager at Leeds United. Previously with Championship side Blackpool Grayson had no hesitation when the offer was put on the table to join The Whites. Lifelong fan of Leeds and ex player Simon joined Leeds United on the 23rd December 2008. Blackpool did threaten legal action as they did not accept Grayson's resignation but that issue was finally resolved in April 2009 when the Seasiders settled for an undisclosed fee as compensation, some reports suggested it was in the region of 200,00 pounds.

Unbeaten in the league United were playing a MK Dons side who were also flying high in the League One table, the Buckinghamshire outfit had only suffered one defeat all season before the game with Grayson's men, the same fixture last season saw the end of Gary McAllister as manager of Leeds as United went down 3-1 which topped a dismal run for the Whites and United were out for revenge. Grayson made two changes for the game with Mike Grella coming in for Luciano Becchio who was away on father watch as his wife was expecting a baby and Leigh Bromby returned in place of Lubo Michalik. Michalik soon returned to the action though replacing Jason Crowe who pulled up in the game after seven minutes with a suspected hamstring injury. It was the home side who looked the most threatening in the early stages with Higgs pulling off a couple of good saves to deny The Dons, United themselves had chances including a free kick by Bradley Johnson. United worked themselves back into the game as the half drew on but there was few chances either way in a close contest. Higgs did pull off a wonderful save as he got down well to save an effort from a MK Dons striker and the excitement continued before the half time whistle blew with Jason Puncheon the MK Dons midfielder seeing red after a diabolical challenge on Michael Doyle. United turned it up at the start of the second half with Mike Grella, Leigh Bromby and Jermaine Beckford all having early efforts on goal while the home side were restricted to just one effort on goal in the first ten minutes. Possession equalled out as the game went on and it looked like the game was ending for a 0-0 draw with both sides making little chances. It was in the four minutes of extra time added when United finally made the breakthrough, Bradley Johnson delivered a pinpoint free-kick onto the head of Robert Snodgrass who powered the ball into the back of the net. Around 4,500 United fans watched the game at the Stadium:MK and it was the travelling faithfull who were celebrating for the final few seconds as United snatched their revenge in the final minute of the game.

Leeds United: Higgs, Crowe, Kisnorbo, Bromby, Doyle, Howson, Johnson, Hughes, Beckford, Grella, Snodgrass.
Subs: Michalik for Crowe, Robinson for Hughes, Ankergren for Higgs.
