JERMAINE BECKFORD NAMED TOP COCA-COLA LEAGUE 1 PLAYER AT 2010 FOOTBALL LEAGUE AWARDS

Leeds United’s Jermaine Beckford has won the FourFourTwo Player of the Year award for Coca-Cola League 1 at the 2010 Football League Awards incorporating FourFourTwo’s Top 50 Football League Players.

Beckford’s award was collected on his behalf by Leeds United manager Simon Grayson at a gala dinner at Grosvenor House, Park Lane on Sunday evening in front of 900 attendees from clubs, sponsors and the football industry.

The 26-year-old striker received the accolade as a result of being ranked 3rd in the FourFourTwo Top 50 Football League Players list which was announced on the night. This made him the highest ranked League 1 representative, and as a result, the FourFourTwo Player of the Year for Coca-Cola League 1. Beckford beat fellow League 1 players Wes Hoolahan and Rickie Lambert to win the award.

It is the second time Beckford has picked up this award having won it in 2008, and his third Football League Award in total having also won the 2008 Mitre Goal of the Year award for a strike while on loan at Scunthorpe United.

Expectations are always high when you wear the white jersey of Leeds United, but by netting an incredible 34 goals last season, Jermaine has again shown his prolific nature to spearhead another championship challenge. So far this season he has netted 27 goals to make him one of the most highly rated strikers around.

Simon Grayson collected the award on behalf of Jermaine Beckford. He said; “Jermaine has got a natural instinct of scoring goals, he’s got a unique talent and it’s great to have him on board at the club. He’s contributed in so many ways this season and what he’s achieved has not been a fluke year because he’s done it before and I’m sure he’ll do it again.”
