The Twister

The Twister

Description: United fans with a banner directed at the then chairman Peter Ridsdale. Due to some bad decisions made by the 'Leeds United PLC' who Ridsdale was fellow chairman of and basically the public figure for, Leeds United found themselves on the brink of administration. In 2002-03 Leeds United had to sell a host of top stars to generate funds and to reduce costs. Supporters vented their anger towards Ridsdale who they blamed for the clear-out and the previous bad decisions. His statement that the 'Crown Jewels' would not be sold didn't help Ridsdale and earned him the tag of Twister and Liar. Ultimately it was the sale of Woodgate to Newcastle which was seen as the ultimate betrayal by the supporters. Ridsdale resigned on the 17th April 2003, two weeks after he announced that Leeds United had slipped to £79m worth of debt.
