Description: The United fans here in full force for the European Cup Final in 1975. United were playing FC Bayern Munich in the European Cup Final of 1975 at the Parc des Princes in Paris, France. This match will always be remembered by Leeds United fans for one man, the referee Michel Kitabdjian. The trouble off the pitch that followed this prestigous game falls into comparison when compared to the appalling decisions made by the referee on the pitch. His calamitous display denied Leeds United the most coveted prize in European football. In the first half of the game United had two penalty appeals turned down, the first involved Franz Beckenbauer who while on his knees handled the ball just as Peter Lorimer was taking the ball round him. The second more blatant penalty again involved Beckenbauer when he brought Allan Clarke down in the box who was bearing down on goal. In the second half United had a Peter Lorimer goal disallowed after the referee looked to have allowed it, the linesman was running back to the centre with his flag down, it looked like United had taken the lead until the referee passed Beckenbauer who seemed to say something to the ref. Immediately he went to have words with the linesman and the goal was disallowed. A shattering blow for Armfield's men, United had dominated the game from the start but were denied the cup by two late Munich goals and the decisions of Kitabdjian. The 48,374 crowd in Paris had witnessed a Sham and the 10,000 Leeds fans who made the trip that night lost their bragging rights but gained a chant, which is still sung today.
