Description:
The United fans swamp the Dean Court pitch here celebrating United's victory and promotion back to division one. The players also joined in with the fans early in this celebration. United were playing Bournemouth on the last day of the 1989-90 season. A win would give Wilkinson's men the second division title and with it promotion back to the top flight of English football after dwelling for 8 years down in the second tier. Bournemouth also desperately needed the points as a loss would see the team relegated to third division. It was the Whites who managed to score the only goal in a close game with Lee Chapman heading home from a Chris Kamara cross. The win sent the thousands of Leeds United fans into raptures and sent Leeds Utd back to where they belong. The crowd on that memorable day was 9,918 with over half coming to see the men in white.
