Leeds United 1984-85 No.0140

Submitted: 03/17/11
Description: A great start to the 1984-85 season for Eddie Gray's Leeds United gave some hope for the United faithful that this could be the season. Unfortunately though that was soon quashed as the team lost the following three and it was this kind of inconsistency that scuppered any hopes of promotion for Leeds. Again in the domestic Cups Leeds were knocked out at the early stages, losing 4-0 at Elland Road to Watford in the second stage of the Football League Cup and again at Elland Road United were beaten by Everton in the 3rd Round of the FA Cup by two goals to nil. The up and down season for United was highlighted by some exciting football from Eddie Grays young side. The 6-0 thrashing of Oldham Athletic and the 5-0 beating of Notts County at Elland Road were mirrored by the equally impressive 1-0 win over eventual Champions Oxford United and the 2-1 win at Maine Road over promoted Manchester City. Gray seemed to be getting it together as his United side finished the campaign in 7th place.
