Description:
Leeds United's first season back down in division two for 1960-61 and it wasn't a smooth ride for Jack Taylor's men. United conceded 83 goals and finished in 14th position only three points above a relegation spot. Manager Jack Taylor had made changes to the squad in the pre-season and put his own mark on the team, he also brought in coach Syd Owen and trainer Les Cocker but things didn't go to plan for Taylor. His resignation before the end of the season came as no surprise to the players or fans, especially after chairman Harry Reynolds had told him he was going to suggest to the board that his time was up at Leeds. After Taylor's departure the board promoted the Inside Right man Don Revie to the player managers position. It was on 17 March, 1961 when Revie took over and with nine games left and United perilously close to the relegation zone Revie managed to keep United clear. With the survival came a superb 7-0 win over Lincoln City at Elland Road in front of 8,432 fans. Goals from Willie Bell, two from John McCole (one from the spot), Noel Peyton, Billy Bremner, Peter McConnell and an own goal lauded Revie's arrival.
