Description:
United here pictured in their change all white strip for the 1958-59 season. Bill Lambton the United coach was made manager by the Leeds board on an acting basis after Raich Carter's contract was not renewed. An under par Leeds saw them finish in 15th position in season 1958-59. Despite United's poor showing and desperate start to the season Lambton's contract was made official after United strung together four wins mid season. The players were not happy with Lambton's style of management or training methods and this led to a revolt by the United playing staff and prompted Lambton to resign before the season finished. Lambton during his spell at Leeds to his credit did introduce a youth development programme which proved very fruitfull in the coming years, he also made a significant signing during his time, two weeks before his position became official Lambton signed Don Revie from Sunderland for 12,000 pounds.
