Description:
Raich Carter's first season in charge for United didn't see much change. A steady Leeds finished season 1953-54 in tenth position scoring 89 goals in the process. John Charles was the star of the term as he scored 43 goals in 39 starts for Leeds. A Leeds United record which is still a record today. An unspectacular Leeds United did see some spectacular results such as the 6-0 win at Elland Road against Notts County in front of 18,432, with 4 goals from John Charles and one each for Albert Nightingale and Harold Williams. Charles scored again in the 7-1 thrashing of Leicester City, Ray Iggledon got a hat-trick, Arthur Tyrer, Albert Nightingale and Harold Williams bagged the others in front of 21,532 fans.
