Description: United finished in tenth spot for the season of 1952-53 and manager Major Frank Buckley resigned in April, 1953 after the season was over. Buckley thought he had taken the club as far as he could on the limited funds that were available to him. The United board hired Raich Carter as his successor and handed him the task of getting Leeds United back in the top flight. John Charles made the swith from centre half to centre foward in the season 1952-53 and scored 26 goals for United. Jack Charlton also made is debut appearance for Leeds in the last match of the season at Elland Road where Leeds drew with Doncaster Rovers 1-1 in front of 12,715 fans, John Charles bagged the United goal.
