Description:
United played some of their best football under Major Frank Buckley in the season 1951-52 but ended the term in 6th position missing out on promotion again. John Charles being away on National Service didn't help United's cause as Charles was fast becoming a major part of the Buckley set up at United. Some good crowds passed through the turnstiles at Elland Road season 1951-52 with 47,985 turning out for the Rotherham United game which United won 3-0 with goals from Gordon Stewart, Ray Iggleden and Jim Milburn. A bigger crowd of 50,645 turned out for the FA Cup 4th round game against Bradford Park Avenue which United won 2-0 with goals from Ray Iggleden and Jim Milburn.
