The Captains Ball

The Captains Ball

Submitted: 02/17/11
Description: Jonathan Howson United's Skipper claims the match ball here after he had netted a hat-trick for the Whites. The shot coming from the Football League Championship game against Scunthorpe United at Glanford Park on the 30th October, 2010. It was Jonny's first professional hat-trick for Leeds and also a perfect hat-trick. A perfect hat-trick is when a goal is scored with the right foot, with the left foot and with the head.

Loiner and United fan Jonathan Howson came through the Academy at Leeds United and made his senior debut for the club on the 19th September, 2006 in the second round of the Football League Cup which United won 3-1. Later in the same season of 2006-07 Howson was given his league debut by manager Wise which came on the 23rd December, 2006 in the 0-0 draw with Hull City at Elland Road. By the season 2007-08 Howson had established himself as the natural choice for his position winning the Young Player of the Year award and earning a new three year contract with the Whites in the bargain. Manager Simon Grayson handed the role of captain to Howson at the start of season 2009-10 due to the absence of injured fellow Loiner Richard Naylor.

Leeds United: Schmeichel, Connolly, O'Brien, Bruce, McCartney, Howson, Faye, Kilkenny, Gradel, Becchio, Snodgrass.
Subs: Johnson for Faye, Paynter for Becchio, Nunez for Snodgrass.

Thanks to Eric of the West Midland Whites for this great pic.
