Jonny & Max

Jonny & Max

Description: Max Gradel United's Ivorian Midfielder and Leeds born Jonathan Howson celebrate on the Elland Road pitch here after United had just clinched promotion to the Championship. The shot coming after the last Football League First Division game of the 2009-10 season against Bristol Rovers on the 8th May, 2010. Max started the game for Leeds but was sent off during the first half for an altercation with the Gas Left Back Daniel Jones. Jonny replaced Shane Lowry after 54 minutes and scored the equalising goal for Leeds just five minutes later.

Ivorian Max Gradel was brought in from Leicester City by manager Simon Grayson for a month loan deal on the 19th October, 2009. Max made an impressive start for the Whites winning the Man of the Match award for Leeds after coming on as substitute in a 2-1 win over Norwich City at Elland Road on the very same day as his move. On the 13th November, 2009 after several more impressive performances for Leeds Grayson extended Gradels loan period to reach up to the 2nd January, 2010. Further into the season of 2009-10 and Grayson was again prompted to extend Gradels loan period after some crucial match winning performances for the Whites but after a 4-2 win against Stockport County manager Grayson confirmed he had begun talks with all the parent clubs of United's loan players and shortly after on the 25th January, 2010 Gradel was signed by Leeds in a two-and-a-half-year contract for an undisclosed fee.

Loiner and United fan Jonathan Howson came through the Academy at Leeds United and made his senior debut for the club on the 19th September, 2006 in the second round of the Football League Cup which United won 3-1. Later in the same season of 2006-07 Howson was given his league debut by manager Wise which came on the 23rd December, 2006 in the 0-0 draw with Hull City at Elland Road. By the season 2007-08 Howson had established himself as the natural choice for his position winning the Young Player of the Year award and earning a new three year contract with the Whites in the bargain. Manager Simon Grayson handed the role of captain to Howson at the start of season 2009-10 due to the absence of injured fellow Loiner Richard Naylor.

Match report to follow.

Leeds United: Higgs, Lowry, Bromby, Collins, Doyle, Kilkenny, Johnson, Hughes, Gradel, Beckford, Becchio.
Subs: Howson for Lowry, Watt for Becchio, Snodgrass for Beckford.
