Beckford & Becchio's Back

Beckford & Becchios Back

Submitted: 03/18/10 (Edited 03/18/10)
Description: Jermaine Beckford and Luciano Becchio here about to shake hands on the Galpharm Stadium pitch before the Football League First Division game against Huddersfield Town on the 27th February, 2010. Beckford played the full ninety minutes for United in the game while Becchio was replaced on 90 by minutes by Tresor Kandol. Luciano also scored United's second goal in the game on 66 minutes.

The Argentinian Becchio was signed by Gary McAllister on the 31st July, 2008 for three years. He impressed the manager with his performances during the 2007-08 pre-season friendlies while on loan from Spanish outfit Merida Union Deportiva. He has since made the number 10 shirt his own.

Jermaine Beckford was signed for Leeds United by manager Kevin Blackwell on the 16th march, 2006. Pulled from non-league Wealdstone F.C. for 50,000 pounds Beckford found it hard to find a place in Blackwell's first eleven and the striker was loaned out to Carlisle United for a month in the first quarter of the 2006-07 season. He was handed his first start for United when Dennis Wise took over the managership but was soon away on loan again, this time with Scunthorpe United. After Jermaine impressed at Scunthorpe, helping the club gain promotion to the Championship Wise gave him another chance and he started the 2007-08 season. Beckford did not disappoint as the striker scored 20 in the league that season helping the Whites reach the Play Off's. Beckford has owned the number nine shirt since and in 2008-09 became the quickest Leeds player to bag 20 goals in a season; since Hotshot Peter Lorimer during the Revie era, and soon after became only the fifth player in the clubs history to score 30 goals in a season. Beckford netted 34 times the most goals by any United player since John Charles bagged 43 in the season 1953-54.

Match report to follow.

Leeds United: Ankergren, Kisnorbo, Naylor, Lowry, Doyle, Howson, McSheffrey, Hughes, Beckford, Becchio, Snodgrass.
Subs: Johnson for McSheffrey, Kandol for Becchio.
