Description: A montage here of the Jermaine Beckford penalty in the First Division game with Carlisle United at Elland Road on the 29th September, 2009. The goalkeeper guessed right but Jermaine was there to crack the rebound home.

United were playing Carlisle United at Elland Road and looking to keep their unbeaten league run intact. Grayson made three changes for the game with Luciano Becchio coming back after his wife had given birth to their daughter Bianca, Casper Ankergren replaced Shane Higgs who picked up a thigh strain in the game with the Milton Keynes Dons and Leigh Bromby replaced Jason Crowe who suffered a hamstring injury in the same game. It was United who started the game the more positive with Luciano Becchio and Robert Snodgrass both having headers on goal during the first ten minutes but as the half wore on it was obvious Carlisle had turned up with the intention of settling for a point as they packed their midfield and defended in numbers. A break came for United after 30 minutes when Michael Doyle was deemed to have been brought down in the box and up stepped Jermaine Beckford to take the spot kick. The Carlisle United keeper guessed right but from the rebound Beckford netted home is seventh goal of the season. The score forced Carlisle out and almost straightaway the visitors brought a save from the United keeper Ankergren and again just before the half time whistle blew Ankergren punched clear from a Carlisle free-kick. United started the second half on the up taking it to Carlisle but a different opposition had emerged from the tunnel as the Cumbrian side applied their own pressure in the game, enjoying spells on the ball and always looked threatening. Leeds did have their own chances on goal with Jonathan Howson cracking a shot just wide but the visitors made United work hard just to keep their lead and with 15 minutes remaining Carlisle were rewarded with a goal. On 70 minutes the Carlisle United manager showed his intentions by bringing on a striker and it was the substitute who brought the equaliser for The Blues five minutes later. United immediately responded with pressure of their own but by now Carlisle had averted back to their original plan and brought on a defender. Despite prolonged pressure and efforts on goal from David Prutton, Robert Snodgrass, Bradley Johnson and Jermaine Beckford it was enough to keep United at bay and Carlisle had earned themselves a point at Fortress Elland Road. 19,673 watched the game at Elland Road and the vast majority went home albeit slightly disappointed that United had dropped points at home but happy inside that United now were the only team in England to still have an unbeaten home record in the league.

Leeds United: Ankergren, Kisnorbo, Naylor, Bromby, Doyle, Howson, Johnson, Hughes, Beckford, Becchio, Snodgrass.
