Brian And Tom
Brian McDermott the Leeds United manager having a word with Tom Lees United's Defender here on the Vicarage Road pitch after the game. The shot coming from the Football League Championship game against Watford at Vicarage Road on the 4th May, 2013. The last game of the 2012-13 season. Tom played the full game for Leeds against The Hornets.

Tom Lees born in Warwick is a product of the Youth System at Elland Road and broke into the first team when he featured in United's pre-season friendlies of 2009. Manager Simon Grayson sent him out on loan to Accrington Stanley when the 2009-10 season started to gain match experience. After the season ended Lees returned to Elland Road where he again featured in Leeds' pre-season games but for the 2010-11 was loaned out to Bury for six months for the player to gain more match experience. After impressing at Bury the Leeds Manager Simon Grayson offered Lees a new contract and on the 10th December, 2010 he signed a two and half year contract with The Whites. His loan period was also extended where Lees spent the rest of the season playing first team football for Bury. Lees returned to Elland Road for the season 2011-12 playing in all of United's pre season fixtures. Manager Grayson decided his time had come, he made his debut for Leeds in the FL Cup 1st Round tie against Bradford City at Elland Road on the 9th August, 2011 and just seven days later scored his first goal for Leeds in the Football League Championship game against Hull City at Elland Road.

After Neil Warnock resigned from his position as Leeds United manager on April 1st, 2013, the Leeds board didn't waste much time in finding his replacement. It was less than a fortnight later on the 12th April that Brian McDermott was appointed as the new manager. Signing for the club on a three year contract Brian brought with him Nigel Gibbs, the two have experience working together at Reading, with Nigel becoming the clubs new Assistant Manager. McDermott's previous managerial stint saw him achieve promotion with Reading to the Premier League in 2011-12, the Berkshire club won the Play Off final after winning 15 of the last 19 games in the Championship. McDermott told Radio Leeds after he joined the club, "This is probably the only club I would come to at this stage of the season. I just want to get going now." The manager had previously stated that he would wait till the Summer to resume his managerial career. Brians first game in charge for Leeds was a tough test in the Yorkshire derby against Sheffield Wednesday at Elland Road, the game coming on the 13th April just a day after he signed for Leeds. United won the game 2-1.

Ryan, Michael, Aidan And Adam
Ryan Hall, Michael Tonge, Aidan White and Adam Drury applaud the travelling White Army after the game on the vicarage Road pitch. The shot coming from the Football League Championship game against Watford at Vicarage Road on the 4th May, 2013. The last game of the 2012-13 season. Michael Tonge and Adam Drury both played the full game for Leeds while Aidan White replaced Michael Brown on 64 minutes and Ryan Hall replaced Paul Green on 90 minutes in the game against the Hornets.

Manager Neil Warnock signed Ryan Hall on the 18th October, 2012 on loan from Southend United until January 2013, with the possibility of a permanent move on the cards. Ryan made his debut for Leeds as a substitute in the Football League Championship game against Birmingham City at Elland Road on the 27th October. To develop the player and build fitness it was decided to put Hall into the development squad, where he did well scoring four goals in one game against the Derby County reserves. Hall made his full debut for Leeds in the Championship game against Millwall at Elland Road on the 18th November. On the 27th December it was announced by the Club that Hall had signed a permanent deal for Leeds United on a two-and a-half-year contract. This made Hall United's first signing of the January 2013 transfer window. Warnock told the official site after the signing, "When we brought Ryan in I said 'I believe he is a player with potential for a big future,' I'm sure during the length of his contract Ryan will have the opportunity to establish himself at this level, and you can see that from his contribution at Huddersfield a few weeks ago."

On the 13th September, 2012 the United manager Neil Warnock signed Michael Tonge on loan till December, 2012. Coming from Sheffield United this is the second time Tonge has played under the stewardship of Warnock. The United Boss told the official site, "A loan had to be someone we wanted and Michael fits the category and I think he'll fit in well. He's desperate to do well. I like that, and I like him as a person. He gives us that passing ability we maybe don't have and he'll fit in well. In January 2013 Tonge signed for The Whites on a permanent two and a half-year contract.

Loiner and Leeds fan Aidan White came through the youth system at Elland Road after joining the academy in 2002. It was manager Gary McAllister who gave him his first first team debut when at the age of 16 he started for Leeds in the Football League Cup game against Crystal Palace on the 26th August, 2008. Aidan received a standing ovation for his efforts after he was substituted and he was soon in the action again seven days later after he started for Leeds in the first round of the Football League Trophy against Bradford City. Another impressive performance beyond his years prompted manager McAllister to give Aidan his first League start for Leeds which came in a 2-0 win over Carlisle United on the 20th September, 2008. Further strong performances from White in the season 2008-09 earned the Loiner a contract at Elland Road which lasts until June 2012.

The Leeds United manager Neil Warnock signed Adam Drury on the 1st July, 2012 from Norwich City on a free transfer. The experienced Defender had been a long time favourite of the United boss, having tried to sign him in the past Warnock told the official site "He's a very good professional. I think he's a good defender, he's quick and I thought we needed a bit of experience in certain places, and that desire and will. And with Adam you know what you're going to get...."

Subs: Poleon/Morison, White/Brown, Hall/Green.

Action At The Gelderd
Action at a packed Gelderd End here with this one taken from the East Stand at Elland Road. The shot coming from the Football League Championship game against Brighton and Hove Albion at Elland Road on the 3rd August, 2013.

The Spion Kop at Elland Road was built in the 1920's and attained its name from a hill in South Africa. During the Boer War 322 British soldiers lost their lives on the hill and many football teams named their stands after Spion Kop hill in tribute to the fallen men. The original Kop was all terracing and built on an embankment, at this time the Kop had no roof. In April 1968 the old Spion Kop terracing was stripped away in no less than six weeks and in its place the new Kop was built complete with a roof and new name. The Elland Road Kop was now known as the Gelderd End. The new stand cost 250,000 to build. In 1994 as a result of the recommendations in the Taylor Report which was published in 1990 the Gelderd End became all seater. 7,000 seats were added to the terrace reducing the stands capacity by just under 3,000. The Gelderd End was the final stand at the Elland Road stadium to acquire seats. The new look Kop was officially opened in October by the President of the club, Lord Harewood and Mrs E Revie the late Don Revie's widow. The Gelderd End was renamed after the great manager himself and the stand is now officially known as the Revie Stand.

The gaffer showed me around, and you can see what a massive club this is with great facilities, and you can't turn it down.

The Leeds United manager Brian McDermott signed Irish International Forward Noel Hunt on the 3rd July, 2013. Coming from Reading on a free transfer Hunt signed for The Whites on a two year contract. This is the second time Hunt has played under McDermott, the two were together at Reading where he scored 39 goals in 162 appearances for the Berkshire outfit. Hunt made his debut for The Whites in the first game of the 2013-14 season at Elland Road against Brighton and Hove Albion on the 3rd August, 2013. Hunt revealed after the signing that the clubs reputation and fans were major reasons he signed for The Whites as well as joining up with his former boss. He's an infectious character and I'm sure he will engage Leeds fans with his desire, determination and never say die attitude."
