Packed For Pompey
The Revie Stand here at Elland Road packed to the rafters for the days game. The shot coming from the Football League Championship game against Portsmouth on the 28th December, 2010.

The Spion Kop at Elland Road was built in the 1920's and attained its name from a hill in South Africa. During the Boer War 322 British soldiers lost their lives on the hill and many football teams named their stands after Spion Kop hill in tribute to the fallen men. The original Kop was all terracing and built on an embankment, at this time the Kop had no roof. In April 1968 the old Spion Kop terracing was stripped away in no less than six weeks and in its place the new Kop was built complete with a roof and new name. The Elland Road Kop was now known as the Gelderd End. The new stand cost £250,000 to build. In 1994 as a result of the recommendations in the Taylor Report which was published in 1990 the Gelderd End became all seater. 7,000 seats were added to the terrace reducing the stands capacity by just under 3,000. The Gelderd End was the final stand at the Elland Road stadium to acquire seats. The new look Kop was officially opened in October by the President of the club, Lord Harewood and Mrs E Revie the late Don Revie's widow. The Gelderd End was renamed after the great manager himself and the stand is now officially known as the Revie Stand.

Leeds United 1998-99 No.0174
Leeds were back in Europe for 1998-99 but after their First Round win in the UEFA Cup against CS Maritimo it was confirmed that manager George Graham was to leave Leeds United. It had been rumoured in the press that he was about to take over the job at Tottenham and after his Leeds side had just secured a Second Round spot in the UEFA Cup it was acknowledged he was to leave. Graham had yielded on the long term contract he had just signed and the Leeds board were on the lookout for a new manager. The fancied Martin O'Neill was told by his current club Leicester City that he was not allowed to talk to Leeds and so the board turned to United's Assistant Manager David O'Leary. David O'Leary had made the progression from the playing staff to George Graham's assistant and was learning the ropes. The team had only played five league games when O'Leary took over, drawing three and winning two. United's progression in Europe was halted after a two legged affair saw The Whites knocked out by AS Roma 1-0. In the Football League Cup and United were knocked out at the Fourth Round stage by Leicester City 2-1 at Filbert Street with Australian Harry Kewell bagging the goal for Leeds. In the FA Cup and United did a little better making it up to the 5th Round stage where Leeds were beat in a replay by Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane 2-0. A very good effort in the League by manager O'Leary and his Leeds side saw United finish in 4th place and with it qualification for the UEFA Cup. The Whites finished the Campaign with 67 points and scored 62 goals.

Stuffing St.Andrews
The United faithful pack their end here in the 1984-85 end of season clash with Birmingham City at St.Andrews Park. This game is known for one of the worst football riots in England. It was a tense Saturday afternoon all round with Leeds United still clinging on to faint hopes of promotion, Birmingham were aleady promoted. During the game after Birmingham City scored a pitch invasion by both sets of supporters resulted in fighting and the exchange of missiles. The players were quickly taken off the pitch and Mounted police were called to seperate the two sets of supporters, and to try and restore calm. The game was brought to a halt for over 30mins. Play eventually resumed after the pitch was cleared and under an edgy atmosphere the game went on without another goal scored. Tragically after the game when the Leeds fans were leaving the ground a wall collapsed killing a teenage boy.
United lost the game 1-0 in front of 24,847 supporters.

Subs: Ritchie for Aspin

It has 25 extra Executive Boxes, a 10,000 all seated bottom tier to house the Family Stand members with a total capacity of over 17,000 all seated. The Tallest Of Them all
A classic shot here of one of the old Diamond Light floodlights at Elland Road. Three of the four floodlights were erected at Elland Road in 1974 at a whopping 260 feet tall. The floodlight in the pic situated at the South East corner of the stadium was the last floodlight to be erected this one was put up in 1978 four years later then the previous three. Each floodlight housed 55 lamps.
Unfortunately the floodlights were brought down shortly after the East Stand was built.

Leeds United 1966-67 No.0095
Another first for Don Revie's Leeds United in the season 1966-67 when The Whites fought their way to the Inter City Fairs Cup final. United eventually lost the final over two legs on goal difference to Croation side Dinamo Zagreb. A record crowd of 57,892 which still stands today at Elland Road saw United beat Sunderland in a FA Cup 5th Round replay and Leeds Marched On to the Semi Final of the competition that season only to be controversially knocked out by Chelsea at Villa Park. Referee K.H. Burns disallowed a perfectly good goal for Leeds, the goal coming from a Johny Giles free-kick who rolled the ball to Peter Lorimer, Lorimer smashed it home but the referee astonishingly ordered the free kick to be taken again because the Chelsea wall was not ten yards from the ball. United finished a decent 4th in the league with a notable 3-1 win over eventual Champions Manchester United at Elland Road with goals from Reaney, Lorimer and Madeley.

Back Row: Norman Hunter, Alan Peacock, Jack Charlton, Paul Madeley, Eddie Gray, Rod Belfitt.
Middle Row: Don Revie (Manager), Willie Bell, Mike O'Grady, David Harvey, Gary Sprake, Albert Johanesson, Rod Johnson, Jimmy Greenhoff.
Front Row: Paul Reaney, Bobby Collins, Johnny Giles, Billy Bremner, Jim Storrie, Peter Lorimer, Terry Cooper.

ALWAYS IN OUR HEARTS
"...Leeds United faced the Turkish side Galatasary in the semi final of the UEFA Cup. The night before the game on the 5th April, 2000 saw Leeds United fans Christopher Loftus and Kevin Speight murdered by a group of Galatasary supporters. The baleful deeds of the Galatasary supporting scum that night will never be absolved by Leeds fans and the memory of Chris and Kevin will always be in our hearts..."
