From Leeds United Americas
A plaque here for the Leeds United Americas that will be situated on the plinth of the Don Revie statue. Leeds United Americas were one of the major donators to the Don Revie Tribute Fund, their name and tribute 'You are always in our hearts' can be seen on the plaque. Created by Barnsley born sculptor Graham Ibbeson the statue is a result of the Don Revie Tribute and is situated opposite the new development at the East Stand side of the Elland Road Stadium. The Don Revie Tribute was set up by Birmingham City fan Jim Cadman. Jim Cadman is passionate about the game of football and has experience in setting up Tributes for past Legends of the game including Tom Finney the Preston North End Forward. It was the eventual sculptor of the Don Revie statue Graham Ibbeson who originally contacted Jim looking for help with the funding of the statue after the sculptor had been approached. The statue would cost around 90k. Jim decided the best way to get the funds and the best way to honour Don would be to set up a Tribute Fund and ask the supporters of Leeds United to contribute. A number of functions, dinners and auctions including a theatrical tribute and magazine were set up by Jim Cadman which were focused around the players from the Don Revie era who gladly gave up their time to help the cause. It was called the Don Revie Tribute and the supporters of Leeds United raised the cash. The Don Revie Statue was unveiled on the 5th May, 2012. Thanks To: Mark for this great pic. |

Tall Diamonds
When in place at Elland Road these were the tallest floodlights in Europe. Constructed in 1974 at a whopping 260 feet tall, initially three floodlights were erected. Two at either side of the Kop and the other in the South West corner. The other was put up in the South East corner adjacent to the old Lowfields four years later. The diamond shaped lights could have been seen for miles around and each light contained 55 lamps. |

Down For The Friendly
A great shot here from the East Stand at Elland Road looking at the Gelderd End, coming from the final pre-season friendly of the 2013-14 season. The club only opened the East Stand and Gelderd End for the game against the Germans. The shot coming from the 2013-14 pre-season friendly against FC Nurnberg at Elland Road on the 27th July, 2013. The Spion Kop at Elland Road was built in the 1920's and attained its name from a hill in South Africa. During the Boer War 322 British soldiers lost their lives on the hill and many football teams named their stands after Spion Kop hill in tribute to the fallen men. The original Kop was all terracing and built on an embankment, at this time the Kop had no roof. In April 1968 the old Spion Kop terracing was stripped away in no less than six weeks and in its place the new Kop was built complete with a roof and new name. The Elland Road Kop was now known as the Gelderd End. The new stand cost £250,000 to build. In 1994 as a result of the recommendations in the Taylor Report which was published in 1990 the Gelderd End became all seater. 7,000 seats were added to the terrace reducing the stands capacity by just under 3,000. The Gelderd End was the final stand at the Elland Road stadium to acquire seats. The new look Kop was officially opened in October by the President of the club, Lord Harewood and Mrs E Revie the late Don Revie's widow. The Gelderd End was renamed after the great manager himself and the stand is now officially known as the Revie Stand. Leeds United: Kenny, Peltier, Lees, Pearce, Warnock, Green, Murphy, McCormack, White, Varney, Poleon. Subs: Drury for Warnock, Tonge for Green, Hunt for Varney, Smith for Poleon. Leeds United 1987-88 No.0147
High hopes for the season of 1987-88 for Leeds United after the achievements of Bremner's side the previous season which saw United reach the Semi Final of the FA Cup and the Play Off Final of the Second Division. The bookies had The Whites down as firm favourites for the title and confidence was high among the support. A bad start to the season which saw Leeds win only twice in their first nine games soon brought the camp at Elland Road back down to earth and by mid season after Leeds had only won six of the opening 20 League games everyone concerned was beginning to fear the worst. In the Domestic Cups and United failed to venture through the early stages. The Football League Cup saw Leeds reach the second stage only to be beaten by Oldham Athletic 4-2 in the replay at Boundary Park, the first game at Elland Road ended in a 2-2 draw. In the FA Cup and United failed to get past the 3rd Round after being beat 2-1 at Elland Road by Aston Villa and in the Simod Cup United lost out to Millwall at the Den 2-0. Following the Simod Cup loss Leeds put together a five match winning run in the League which brought the pre-season belief back to some but unfortunately it wasn't to be as up and down form plagued the rest of the season and any hope of that promotion had gone. United eventually finished the season in a disappointing 7th position, out of the automatic promotion position's and six points behind a Play Off position. One of the highlights of the season did see the emergence of the Leeds born youngster David Batty coming through the ranks, where he made seven League appearances for The Whites and scored a rare goal, a beauty too coming in a 2-1 win against Manchester City at Maine Road. Back Row: Jack Ashurst, David Rennie, John Pearson, Mervyn Day, Neil Aspin, Peter Swan, Peter Haddock. Middle Row: David Bentley (Assistant Manager), Nigel Thompson, Bobby McDonald, John Buckley, John Sheridan, Ronnie Sinclair, Brendan Ormsby, Bob Taylor, Gary Williams, Davis Blakey (Chief Scout), Billy Bremner (Manager). Front Row: Alan Sutton (Physio), John Stiles, Glynn Snodin, Micky Adams, Mark Aizlewood, David Batty, Russell Doig, Keith Edwards, Peter Gunby (Coach). |

Danish Whites MOT
The Danish flag here adorned with the message "Save Our Club". Placed at the Billy statue by some of the many fans from Denmark in support of the Flower Protest in July 2007. The flag also reads "Danish Whites." "MOT." The Flower protest was created against a backdrop of one of the darkest periods in Leeds United's history. A time when the club was very close to going completely out of business and thus ending any representation for the City of Leeds in the Football League. It was an anonymous Leeds United fan who belonged to the Ultra's, a Leeds United supporters group, that came up with the idea. The Flower Protest was a concerted effort by the United faithful organised through the various Leeds United forum's on the internet and in particular WACCOE. It had the aim of showing love and support through the club's darkest hour with a display of flowers and club colours that should be laid around the Billy statue. The first shirt and flowers were laid on the 20th July by WACCOE user Bilks and the display soon gathered momentum as the word spread round. Fans of other teams showed their support and some offered their own colours at the Bremner statute, the media were also soon to pick up on the protest with local and national news teams reporting on the story. Leeds fans lay flowers at statue Comments YEP Video The display was taken down by Elland Road officials around a week before the new season kicked off. Pic by LufcMadFerret. |

Old Peacock
The Old Peacock Pub in this shot situated on Elland Road opposite the South Stand. Elland Road was originally named after this pub because it faced the land on where the ground is built. Rugby was the dominant sport in Leeds at the time and Holbeck Rugby Club used to play at the ground. The 'Old Peacock' ground changed its name to Elland Road shortly after Association Football arrived in the shape of Leeds Woodville who shared the ground with Holbeck. Currently the Leeds United Supporters Club run the Old Peacock. |
